Portrait Of God-Short Scary Story
“You cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.”
- Exodus 33:20
Alex’s voice echoed through the empty room as she rehearsed her presentation for university. She was alone, with just her laptop and projector for company. The slide she started with was completely black, and she would usually tell her audience that most people saw nothing in it. However, a few claimed to see something—a shadowy figure with glowing eyes and a creepy smile, as if it meant them harm.
She reset the timer and began practicing again. This time, when she looked at the black slide, her heart skipped a beat. Staring right back at her were two glowing eyes, and behind them, the faint outline of a figure.
At first, she thought it was just her imagination playing tricks. But as the image became clearer, fear clawed at her. She quickly turned off the projector, but the terrifying figure didn’t vanish.
In a panic, she bolted from the room, slamming the door behind her and gripping the cross around her neck. But when she looked around, she realized something was wrong. This wasn’t her house. The air was thick with a strange, musty scent, and the atmosphere felt… off. Dark. Unfamiliar.
As she stood frozen, the glowing eyes appeared again, piercing the darkness, slowly coming closer. She backed up, but there was nowhere to go.
Her fingers dug into the cross hanging around her neck, her lips muttering a desperate prayer. But before she could finish, the creature’s cold, frail hand gently grabbed her chin, forcing her to look into its glowing eyes. Its mouth slowly opened, revealing a bright, blue orb inside.
Just as she felt herself slipping into its gaze, reality came crashing back. Alex found herself standing in front of the projector again, her hand aching and bleeding from clutching the cross so tightly. She glanced at the timer—it had been running for over three hours while she stood there, blankly staring at the screen.
